Our woodwind quintet-OPUS FIVE, is based of members of the Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra which is based in Central Florida. The Quintet is comprised of Oboe, Joanne Pherigo; Clarinet, Vanessa Vache; Bassoon, Lisa Waite, French Horn, David Atchison. We offer a variety of music ranging from wedding music and light classical, Ragtime for events and gatherings.
We specialize in clinics and workshops for high school and college age students, where we can focus on performing, coaching and troubleshooting for this wonderful Repertoire that has been written for this exciting combination of instruments.

Joanne Pherigo (Oboe):
In addition to Opus 5, Joanne Pherigo currently plays second oboe and solo English horn with the Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra, and she is a member of the Walt Disney World Candlelight Orchestra. During the past year Joanne has also played with the Bach Festival of Winter Park, the Brevard Symphony, and the Orlando Philharmonic. Before moving to Florida, Joanne played oboe with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra and the Kalamazoo Bach Festival for 20 + years. She also played with the Grand Rapids Symphony, Battle Creek Symphony, and the Southwest Symphony in Michigan, and the South Bend Symphony in Indiana. Her main teachers were Donald Baker, Detroit Symphony; Ralph Gomberg, Boston Symphony at Tanglewood; and Robert Humiston, Western Michigan University.
David Atchison (French Horn)
As a professional musician with a career spanning over 30 years, David has appeared in national and regional tours with The Bobby Goldsboro, Henry Mancini and Ray Charles Orchestras as well as Radio City Music Hall touring shows. He has recorded soundtracks for numerous Disney television specials and movie trailers, plus has recorded for national and regional commercials and newscasts. David has appeared in the pit for over thirty (30) musicals and touring Broadway shows and has also performed with the London Symphony during their Summer Concert series.
Currently, David is a member of the Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra, the Gainesville Chamber Orchestra, Disney’s Candlelight Orchestra and recently appeared with professional brass and jazz groups at Disney and Sea World in Orlando.
Lisa Waite (Bassoonist)
Bassoonist Lisa Waite is from Ormond Beach, Florida. She began her studies on
the instrument at the age of 10 with Reno Fusani of Buffalo, New York, and
continued them at the State University of New York at Fredonia with Dr. John
Gillette. She then studied with Dr. Ashley Heintzen at Stetson University
(Deland, Florida) where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical
Technology while playing principal bassoon in the Stetson University Orchestra and Wind Ensemble and earning a minor in music performance on a music
scholarship. Currently, Lisa is the principal bassoonist of the Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach Symphonies, second bassoonist/contrabassoonist with the Florida
Lakes Symphony, and a member of the Orlando-based professional woodwind quintet Opus 5. She is an active free-lancer and has performed with Flagler Symphony,
Bach Festival Orchestra of Winter Park, Orlando Symphony, Brevard Symphony, and
the Orlando Philharmonic, as well as with various other groups throughout
Central Florida. In addition, she performs with the Rhapsody Wind Quintet (also
from Orlando), the Orlando Clarinet Orchestra (performing on alto clarinet), and
the Choral Arts Society Chamber Orchestra in Palm Coast. She teaches privately,
but is also an active learner, currently studying with Terry Ewell. When she
is not working in the laboratory or pursuing her music endeavors, Lisa enjoys
spending time with her husband Jonathan and working towards her black belt in
Tae Kwan Do.
Craig Thomas (Flute, Recorder, Violin and Guitar)
Craig Thomas is a professional performer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist. Under the tutelage of his mother, Craig delved into the world of early choral and instrumental music and began learning such instruments as the violin, viola da gamba, recorder, flute, mandolin, hurdy-gurdy and classical guitar.
Craig is a full time member of the Irish/Pop band The Wyndbreakers, artistic director of the Renaissance ensemble The Playford Waits, the baroque trio sonata group Olde Noyse and the Caroling Company. He is also a veteran liturgical instrumentalist at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Winter Park, FL.
